Today we\u2019d like to introduce you to Rickie Tang.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rickie, let\u2019s start with your story. We\u2019d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Born in China and immigrated to Canada at age seven. Being brought up in the mix of both opposing cultures in some ways had its struggles, but I feel it has strengthened me. I am an artist, I draw, paint, and have interests in photography and film as well. However, I am currently studying fashion design at SCAD and want to pursue a career in fashion. I want to create a way through my products where people can express themselves, especially at times where there are language or cultural barriers. I have experienced that first hand, and I have found that through the love of clothing and sneakers, it had helped me connect easier with people. My brand motto is \u201cto express thoughts through products.\u201d I hope my consumers can share what\u2019s on their mind through what I\u2019ve created, without having to speak physically.<\/span><\/p>\n

This summer, I am planning to start a sustainable project, where I will be collecting old clothes or clothes that are not being worn by my friends and family and recycling\/reworking them into something refreshing that they\u2019ll enjoy. Sustainability is a huge topic in fashion. A great quantity of waste is being produced by the industry yearly and I hope to work in ways to minimize it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Great, so let\u2019s dig a little deeper into the story \u2013 has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you\u2019ve had to overcome?
\n<\/span><\/strong>To be honest, I have had it easy so far compared to most people that might come from a more struggling family. I am grateful and blessed to be where I am. However, I know the road will get tougher when I enter the industry and leave home, but that is why I am studying very hard and preparing myself to the highest level.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019d love to hear more about your art.
\n<\/span><\/strong>My business is still very young and in the building process, my main priority as of right now is academics. I specialize in fashion, accepting custom orders, and reworked clothing. What sets me apart, I believe, is my perspective, I am a blend of the West and the East.<\/span><\/p>\n
